A Lesson From the Grapevine

"I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing" – Jesus (John. 15:5)

Think about a grapevine. Do its branches produce fruit or do they merely bear the fruit that is produced by the life of the vine that flows through them? Aha, a branch can’t produce fruit. Like Jesus said, it bears fruit. So we see that Jesus more to us than just the One that saves us from hell fires. He is our daily, moment-by-moment life.

Jesus said that just as a vine is life to its branches, He is life to us. Christians are similar to branches in that we are to depend upon Christ through us as our animation. Picture a vine with a gazillion branches loaded with fruit. Like branches on a vine, all of us share the same life-Christ. We’re simply to "abide." How do you do that? With your mind. Think of yourself as being able to "do nothing" independently. That’s Jesus’ opinion. You were recreated in Christ to live this way. That’s abiding. Believe that. Now add behavior to it; live like it.

This is why Paul says, "I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me…" (Rom. 15:18). Hmmm. So, who did Paul’s work that you read about in the Bible, Christ or Paul? Read the verse again.
