There is nothing more disarming than the way a coward fights.

One summer during high school I was tapped to start in place of another guy on a church softball team. As you would imagine, the guy I was replacing was ticked. Just before we began warming up, he filled the inside of my cleats with mud, and then while I was cleaning my shoes out, he came up behind me and hit me in the ribs with his fist and forearm, cracking two of my ribs and knocking the breath out of me.

That's the way a coward fights. He strikes from behind with an unfair punch, kicks you when you are down, throws low blows, will bite and scratch if given the opportunity, and avoids the real issue of his insecurity at all cost.

You are engaged in a spiritual war against the Devil. He is a hate-filled, grasping coward who is fighting for his life. You must fight against him with spiritual weapons (see Eph 6:10-20), respond to him with truth, and set your mind on what your Father says about you versus the appearance of your circumstances.

Be courageous. As you do so, you will seize victory and avert defeat, procuring for yourself confidence, strength, security, and significance. Cowards fight to preserve their insecurities and build a feeble sense of security. But you on the other hand are anything but a coward. Set your mind on what true strength is, who your source is, and how your significance is actually determined (see Phil 4:8).
