I have obnoxious neighbors. What should I do?

When we find ourselves being treated unfairly, that is when it really takes the power of God to love those who have mistreated us. Jesus says in Matthew 5:44, “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…“ When I first heard these words, I was really bothered because it seemed like an impossible demand. Well, I was right. It is impossible except for one person: Jesus.

When Jesus was on the cross, he prayed for those who were crucifying Him. “But Jesus was saying, ‘Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.’” His love for them was stronger than the cruelty they were inflicting on Him. Jesus wants to express that same love through you towards the people around you… everybody around you. Ask Him to love through you, and then go ahead and treat this person with love, believing that it is Jesus doing it through you.

Ask God to show you how much He loves you, and that His love does not change, even in tough circumstances. The most important thing that can happen in your life is that you learn to live in dependence on God.
