Underneath God’s Umbrella of Forgiveness

Let’s say that you were living back when David was King of Isreal, and God came to you to pose this question: "As you know, I intend to bring my only Son out of the lineage of King David. My problem is that David had eight wives and nineteen sons. I want you to name the wife whose son I should select."

Seven of David’s wives are legitimate. The eighth is Bathsheba. David committed adultery with Bathsheba, she got pregnant, and he had her husband Uriah murdered to cover up this sin. David had eighteen sons via legitimate wives, plus Solomon, born of his wife Bathseba who became David’s wife in a scandalous affair.

Although you might struggle to choose the purest and godliest of the eighteen of these sons, you would know right off hand to eliminate number nineteen–Solomon. There is no way that anyone would have the nerve to choose Solomon! No one but God, that is. God chose him! Why would he do this? I believe God chose Solomon just for *your* sake. If you are one of those folks who think you’re too sinful to come under God’s umbrella of forgiveness, well then think again. What a God!
